Apply here, nowhere else
Use these official links directly. Do not search for an Australia visa application and click the first ad, that is how people land on copycat sites that charge for a free application.
- Apply for an eVisitor (subclass 651) on the Department of Home Affairs site - official eVisitor page, reached from GOV.UK. There is no visa application charge or service fee for the eVisitor.
- GOV.UK: Australia entry requirements - official UK guidance for full British citizen passport holders, including the eVisitor and ETA options.
Entry checklist, short visit
- A visa is required, and the eVisitor is the usual route: Australia is not visa-free for UK passport holders. British citizens can usually get an eVisitor (subclass 651) for tourism or business visitor purposes. You must have it before you travel, and airlines will check it before boarding.
- Cost: no visa application charge and no service fee for the eVisitor, per GOV.UK. If you are asked to pay for an eVisitor application, you are not on the official route.
- Validity: 12 months from grant, with multiple entries while it remains valid.
- Stay per visit: up to 3 months per visit. Work is not permitted on an eVisitor, and study or training is limited to 3 months.
- Everyone needs one: each traveller, including children, needs their own eVisitor, linked to their own passport.
- Apply from outside Australia: you must be outside Australia when you apply and when the eVisitor is granted.
- Passport: your passport must be valid for the length of your planned stay. Check any transit country on your route, as many require 6 months of validity even for transit.
- Timing: processing time varies by case, so apply well before you book anything non-refundable, and do not assume an instant grant. The exact processing window for your application could not be verified from an official source on 24 October 2026, so this page gives no processing promise.
- British citizen passports only: the eVisitor list covers United Kingdom, British Citizen passports. Other British passport categories, including British National Overseas, are not eVisitor-eligible and need a different visa route. Check Home Affairs before you apply.
- Transit: if you only transit Australia without entering, check the Home Affairs transit rules for your exact case before you travel, as a transit visa may still be required depending on your time in transit and whether you leave the transit area. This page does not state a transit exemption, because it could not be verified for this route on 24 October 2026.
- Not a guarantee: an eVisitor confirms advance permission to travel. An officer still makes the final entry decision on arrival, and you must meet health and character requirements.
- Not a move: an eVisitor does not give work or residence permission. Work, study beyond the limit, or living in Australia needs a separate immigration route, with its own advice.
Dual nationals: if you are a British-Australian dual national, GOV.UK says you must leave and enter Australia on your Australian passport. Do not travel on the British passport route in that case.
Scouting trip budget, fixed maths
Flights are per person, the room is shared, daily spending is per person. Trip total is for all travellers. Per person is trip total divided by travellers, with no extra flight added. All flight and hotel figures below are editable examples, not sourced flight or hotel prices. The eVisitor fee is $0, so no entry fee is added to this calculator.
Entry fee is $0 for the eVisitor, so it adds nothing here. If you instead use the paid ETA route, add its service fee separately and check the live amount on Home Affairs first.
Your result
Estimated trip total, all travellers, including entry fee ($0)
Worked example on the default inputs: 14 days, 2 travellers, $1,200 flights per person, $220 room per night, $110 daily per person, 10% buffer, $0 entry fee. Base is $8,560, plus buffer is $9,416 total, $673 per day, $4,708 per person. Flight and hotel figures here are examples for maths checking only. Replace them with quotes you have actually received.
From scouting trip to move
A scouting trip answers questions a calculator cannot: which city feels right, what the commute actually feels like, and whether a place in its hottest season is a place you want to live. If the trip goes well, the next step is proper immigration advice for a move, not a longer visitor stay.
There is no matching move page for this route in the current ElsewhereMath cluster, because the cluster move pages are US-origin only. This page therefore links back to the prototype homepage only, and does not point to a move page that does not exist.
Sources, checked 24 October 2026
- GOV.UK, Australia entry requirements, opened directly 24 October 2026: a visa is required, British citizens can usually get an eVisitor with no visa application charge or service fee, or an ETA through the app with a possible service fee, and passports must be valid for the length of stay.
- Department of Home Affairs eVisitor (subclass 651) page, reached from GOV.UK on 24 October 2026: official apply route at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. The Home Affairs page itself did not render readable text in the check, so the 12-month validity, 3-months-per-visit, multiple-entry, outside-Australia, and no-work details on this page come from multiple 2026 summaries of Home Affairs material checked that day, and must be rechecked on Home Affairs before publication.
- British citizen passport eligibility, and exclusion of other British passport categories from the eVisitor, from the same 2026 summaries of Home Affairs material.
Gaps left open on purpose: the official processing window and the exact transit rule are not stated on this page, because they could not be verified from an official source on 24 October 2026. Recheck Home Affairs again before this page publishes as a guide, because entry rules change.
