Denver to Da Nang: what salary would you need?

Could life be better somewhere else? Start with the numbers, not the dream. This page answers the first two ElsewhereMath questions for one pair: where could you afford to live, and what would your financial life actually look like there?

Last checked: 24 October 2026 · Exchange rate used: VND 1 = $0.0000387 (rounded, 24 October 2026; $1 = VND 25,843) · Status: Draft, awaiting review before publication.

The sourced starting points

Use these as a starting range, not as a single true price. Rent methods differ, and that difference matters more than any single average. Da Nang rents vary sharply by furnishing, building amenities, and whether the listing is aimed at visitors or long-term renters.

ItemDenverDa NangSource and caveat
One-bedroom rent, per month$1,427 median to $1,550, depending on the listing sampleVND 10,200,000 to VND 14,700,000 typical listing range, about $395 to $569 at $0.0000387, with cheaper and more expensive listings outside that rangeDenver: Apartment List October 2026 Rent Report, 1-bedroom median $1,427, all sizes $1,613, September 2026 estimates. Zumper rent research, updated 24 October 2026, Denver 1-bedrooms around $1,550 per month, all sizes median $1,904. Da Nang: PropVN 1-bedroom rent insights, data as of 16 October 2026, 248 listings across 8 neighbourhoods, typical rent about VND 12,500,000 per month, most 1-bedroom apartments between VND 10,200,000 and VND 14,700,000. Numbeo Da Nang, updated 6 October 2026, crowd-sourced 1-bedroom city centre VND 13,636,817, outside the centre VND 8,964,850, from 93 entries over 18 months, so it is a weaker source. A 2026 Da Nang rental guide puts a clean furnished 1-bedroom at VND 7,000,000 to VND 10,000,000 without a pool and gym, and VND 12,000,000 to VND 20,000,000 with them. Do not pick one of these as the Da Nang price. Pick the furnishing and building type, then replace the range with listings you have actually seen.
Vietnam income tax, residents, 2026Five progressive bands on monthly taxable income, after deductions: 5% up to VND 10,000,000. Then 10% up to VND 30,000,000. Then 20% up to VND 60,000,000. Then 30% up to VND 100,000,000. Then 35% above VND 100,000,000. Personal deduction VND 15,500,000 per month, plus VND 6,200,000 per month for each registered dependent, for 2026. Non-residents pay a flat 20% on Vietnam-sourced employment income, with no personal deduction.Vietnam Personal Income Tax Law No. 109/2025/QH15, salary provisions applying from the 2026 tax period, and Resolution 110/2025/UBTVQH15 for the deduction amounts, as summarised in the 2026 guides checked on 24 October 2026. Tax status turns on residence, including the 183-day test, so get a personal calculation before you rely on any tax figure. The calculator below uses a single user-entered effective rate, not these bands, because the result varies so much by status, deductions, and insurance.
US tax, DenverNo single rate is used here. Federal tax plus Colorado tax both apply, and your effective rate depends on income, filing status, and deductions.Enter your own effective tax rate in the calculator. Do not use a headline marginal rate as if it were your total tax.
Healthcare, in one lineMainly employer or private insurance in the US, with premiums, deductibles, and copays on top of tax.Vietnam has compulsory social and health insurance for most foreign employees on a labour contract of 12 months or more, employee share 8% social plus 1.5% health, while other movers generally need private cover. This is a system difference, not a price. Check whether your contract puts you in the compulsory system, and budget for private cover if it does not.

Why the Da Nang range is so wide: a basic furnished flat, a building with a pool and gym, and a serviced apartment are three different products, and listings aimed at short stays price differently from long-term leases. The PropVN typical range is the closest starting point for a long-term 1-bedroom, but it is still a listing sample, not a quote.

Try it: match your life, not just your salary

Da Nang rent is entered in dong and converted at the editable exchange rate, so you can see the conversion instead of guessing it. Other Da Nang costs are an example only, replace them with your own. The exchange rate field is dong to dollars, so it is a small decimal: VND 1 = $0.0000387.

Formula, in plain words: take-home needed in Da Nang equals Da Nang monthly costs in dollars plus your current monthly cushion, divided by one minus your Da Nang tax rate. This is illustrative maths, not a tax calculation. The Vietnam bands above are the check, not a substitute for a personal calculation. If your Da Nang income would be paid in dollars, or in another currency, the equivalent salary here is in US dollars at the rate you entered.

Savings difference vs Denver costs-

Worked example on the defaults above: take-home now $6,175 per month, left after costs $2,648 per month, Da Nang rent about $484 per month, Da Nang total costs about $793 per month, equivalent salary about $45,885 per year, and a savings difference of about $2,734 per month. The 10% Da Nang tax rate in this example is user-entered, not computed from the bands, because Vietnam tax depends on residence, deductions, and insurance. Savings difference is Denver monthly costs minus Da Nang monthly costs in dollars. Positive means Da Nang costs less on these inputs. It is not a savings forecast, because tax, healthcare, transport, visa costs, and lifestyle are only partly in these fields.

Official links to check, not search results

No official government link is included on this page, because no official Vietnam government URL for tax or health insurance for this pair was verified from a search result or an official site check on 24 October 2026. That gap is stated here on purpose, rather than filled with a guessed government address or a commercial guide dressed up as an official link.

Sources note: the Vietnam tax bands and deductions on this page are from Law No. 109/2025/QH15 and Resolution 110/2025/UBTVQH15 as summarised in the 2026 guides checked on 24 October 2026. Before publication, verify them against the official legal text and add the verified official link. Do not link to a copycat tax or visa site in the meantime.

What this page still does not do

  • Family size: one-bedroom rent and a single-person budget do not scale cleanly to a family. A family version needs bedroom count, schooling, and childcare as separate fields.
  • Housing ownership: buying, mortgage, and US property tax are not in this calculator. Renters only, for now.
  • Pension and remote income: salary mode only on this page. Pension mode and remote-income mode are not yet built.
  • Visa and residence: a short visit is not a move. There is no exact matching visa page for this pair in the locked 20-page cluster, so get immigration advice for work or residence permission instead of following an invented link.
